grounding rod
Electrical safety stake
A grounding rod is a metal rod driven into the earth to provide a safe path for electrical current, protecting buildings and equipment from lightning strikes or electrical faults.
The rod connects a structure's electrical system to the ground, allowing dangerous voltage to dissipate harmlessly into the soil: The electrician installed a grounding rod beside the foundation.
Also called a ground rod or earth rod.
