gray fox

Arboreal American canid

A gray fox is a small North American canid with grizzled gray fur and a black-tipped tail.

Unlike other foxes, it can climb trees, using its curved claws to escape predators or hunt prey.

A gray fox scrambled up the oak when the dogs got close.

Also spelled grey fox.
