graduation march

Cap-and-gown anthem

A graduation march is a piece of music played during academic commencement ceremonies, typically as graduates process in or out.

The most famous is Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1," so ubiquitous at American graduations that hearing it evokes caps and gowns: The graduation march started and we filed toward our seats.
