overproduction
Making too much
Overproduction is making more of something than can be sold or used.
In economics, it describes when supply exceeds demand, leading to falling prices and unsold inventory: The oil glut resulted from years of overproduction.
In agriculture, overproduction can collapse markets: Overproduction of corn drove prices below the cost of farming.
The term also applies to creative work—an overproduced song or film has too many effects, layers, or polish, losing authenticity in the process.
