glam metal
Big hair rock
Glam metal is a subgenre of heavy metal from the 1980s characterized by flashy costumes, big hair, heavy makeup, and anthemic power ballads.
Bands like Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Def Leppard defined the style, blending hard rock riffs with pop hooks and theatrical presentation.
Also called hair metal, often disparagingly by critics who considered it superficial: Glam metal ruled the Sunset Strip before grunge killed it off.
