gilder
Applies metallic leaf
A gilder is a craftsperson who applies gold leaf or gold paint to surfaces—frames, furniture, architectural details, books.
The work requires patience and precision: gold leaf is tissue-thin and tears easily.
The gilder carefully laid sheets of gold onto the carved molding.
Gilder also names the person or thing that gilds in any sense.
