gigapascal

Billion-fold pressure measure

A gigapascal is a unit of pressure equal to one billion pascals, used primarily in materials science and engineering to measure extremely high pressures.

The tensile strength of steel, the hardness of minerals, and pressures deep within the Earth are typically expressed in gigapascals: Diamond has a hardness of about 100 gigapascals.
