Compressed ski surface
Hardpack is snow that has been compressed into a firm, dense surface, typically found on ski slopes and winter roads where traffic has packed it down.
Unlike powder or loose snow, hardpack provides a stable but slick surface that's easier to ski on but more challenging to stop on.
The term also applies to hard-packed dirt or gravel surfaces.
The trails had turned to hardpack after a week of heavy use.
