frostnip
Mild cold injury
Frostnip is mild cold injury to the skin, a precursor to frostbite.
The affected area—usually fingers, toes, ears, or nose—becomes pale and numb but doesn't suffer permanent damage.
Unlike frostbite, frostnip affects only the skin's surface and resolves with gentle rewarming: I got frostnip waiting for the bus.
