freekick
Awarded after fouls
A freekick is a kick awarded in football (soccer) when the opposing team commits a foul, allowing the fouled team to kick the ball without interference from opponents, who must stand a set distance away.
Freekicks near the goal often become set-piece opportunities where skilled players attempt to curl the ball around a defensive wall and into the net.
The term is sometimes written as two words: free kick.
