freebirths
Births without midwives
Freebirths are childbirths that take place without medical professionals present—no doctors, midwives, or nurses.
The term is used by advocates who choose unassisted home birth, often for reasons of bodily autonomy or distrust of medical intervention: She's had three freebirths.
Critics consider the practice dangerous.
Also called unassisted births.
