frameup

Planted evidence scheme

A frameup is a scheme to make an innocent person appear guilty, typically through fabricated evidence or false testimony: The conviction was overturned when the frameup was exposed.

The word implies deliberate conspiracy, often by those with power—corrupt police, vindictive rivals, or criminal organizations covering their tracks.

Also spelled frame-up.
