frame drops
Video performance hiccups
Frame drops occur when a video game or video playback fails to render images at its target rate, causing momentary stuttering or visual hitches.
The term comes from frames being "dropped" rather than displayed: I'm getting frame drops whenever there's a big explosion.
Also called dropped frames.
Heavy processing loads, insufficient hardware, or poor optimization typically cause them.
