frackers
Hydraulic drilling companies
Frackers are people or companies that extract oil or natural gas through hydraulic fracturing—injecting high-pressure fluid into rock to release trapped hydrocarbons.
The term often appears in political contexts, where frackers may be praised for energy independence or criticized for environmental damage: The frackers moved into rural Pennsylvania.
Local activists protested against the frackers.
