NIMBYs
Development-blocking neighbors
NIMBYs is the plural of NIMBY, an acronym for "not in my backyard." A NIMBY opposes local development projects—housing, homeless shelters, wind turbines, cell towers—while often supporting such things in principle elsewhere.
The term is usually derogatory, implying hypocrisy or selfish obstructionism: NIMBYs blocked the affordable housing project for years.
