four-by-two

Standard building wood

A four-by-two is a piece of lumber measuring roughly four inches by two inches in cross-section (actually 3.5 by 1.5 inches after milling).

The term follows the standard naming convention for dimensional lumber: We need some four-by-twos for the framing.

In British and Australian rhyming slang, four-by-two is an offensive term for a Jewish person (rhyming with "Jew").
