flyback
Electron beam reset
Flyback describes a rapid return to a starting position, particularly in electronics and display technology.
In cathode-ray tubes, the flyback is the beam's quick return from the end of one scan line to the beginning of the next.
A flyback transformer generates high voltage pulses for this purpose.
The term extends to any mechanism that snaps back: flyback chronograph, flyback diode.
