floating voters
Uncommitted ballot casters
Floating voters are people who don't consistently support one political party, switching their allegiance between elections based on issues, candidates, or circumstances.
They're the persuadable middle that campaigns target most aggressively, since committed partisans are already locked in.
Also called swing voters: The election will be decided by floating voters in key districts.
