flight envelope
Aircraft operational limits
The flight envelope is the range of conditions—speed, altitude, angle of attack, load factor—within which an aircraft can operate safely.
Beyond these limits, the aircraft may stall, lose control, or suffer structural damage.
Test pilots deliberately push the envelope to explore performance boundaries, a phrase that has spread to mean testing any limits: She's always pushing the envelope with her designs.
