fish ladders
Upstream migration routes
Fish ladders are structures built alongside dams or waterfalls that allow migrating fish to pass upstream.
They consist of a series of ascending pools, each slightly higher than the last, creating a staircase effect that fish can navigate by swimming and jumping.
Also called fishways.
The salmon made their way up the fish ladder to reach their spawning grounds.
