reifying
Treating abstractions tangibly
Reifying is treating an abstract concept as if it were a concrete, tangible thing.
The term comes from philosophy and social theory, where it describes the error of making fluid ideas seem fixed and real: By reifying "intelligence" as a single number, IQ tests obscure how varied human abilities actually are.
The criticism often implies that reification distorts understanding or serves ideological purposes.
