repressed
Pushed out of awareness
Repressed describes feelings, memories, or desires pushed out of conscious awareness or deliberately suppressed.
In psychology, repressed material remains in the unconscious, influencing behavior without the person's knowledge: repressed childhood trauma.
More loosely, a repressed person inhibits natural impulses or emotions, often to unhealthy degrees: He was so repressed he couldn't express affection.
Repressed can also describe groups kept down by authority: a repressed population.
