deconstruct
Analyze by dismantling
Deconstruct means to take something apart to examine its components or underlying assumptions.
The word gained currency from the literary and philosophical movement called deconstruction, which analyzes texts to reveal hidden contradictions and assumptions.
Outside academia, deconstruct often simply means to analyze closely or break down: Let's deconstruct what went wrong in that meeting.
In cooking, a deconstructed dish presents traditional components separately rather than combined: deconstructed lasagna.
