false dichotomy
Illusory two choices
A false dichotomy presents only two options when more exist: Either you're with us or against us.
The framing excludes middle ground, compromise, or alternative positions.
Common in rhetoric and propaganda, it pressures people toward one choice by making the other seem unacceptable.
Also called a false dilemma or black-and-white thinking.
