emotional blackmail
Leveraging someone's feelings
Emotional blackmail is manipulation through guilt, fear, or obligation to control someone's behavior.
The blackmailer leverages the relationship itself—threatening withdrawal of love, approval, or presence unless demands are met: Every time I set a boundary, she cries and says I don't care about her.
Unlike literal blackmail, the currency is emotional rather than material, but the coercive dynamic is similar.
