fair territory
Between the lines
Fair territory is the area of a baseball field within the foul lines, extending from home plate past first and third base to the outfield fence.
A ball hit into fair territory is in play; one that lands or rolls outside the foul lines is foul.
The lines themselves are part of fair territory: The ball landed on the line, so it was fair.
