euthanising

Putting to sleep

Euthanising is the British spelling of euthanizing—deliberately ending a life to relieve suffering.

The term applies most often to animals: The vet recommended euthanising the dog.

When applied to humans, it refers to assisted death for the terminally ill, a practice legal in some jurisdictions and controversial in others.
