discontentment

Persistent inner unrest

Discontentment is the state of being dissatisfied or unhappy with one's circumstances.

It carries a sense of restless dissatisfaction—not acute misery, but a persistent feeling that things should be better than they are: A vague discontentment settled over him as he surveyed his life.

The word is slightly more formal than discontent, which serves the same purpose.
