energy intake
Food's caloric value
Energy intake is the amount of energy obtained from food and drink, typically measured in calories or kilojoules.
The term appears in nutrition science and weight management contexts, where energy intake is balanced against energy expenditure: If your energy intake exceeds what you burn, you'll gain weight.
