elevator operator
Button-pressing employee
An elevator operator is a person employed to run a passenger elevator, controlling its movement between floors and announcing stops.
Once common in department stores, hotels, and office buildings, the job became obsolete as automatic elevators replaced manually operated ones: My grandmother worked as an elevator operator at Macy's in the 1940s.
