liftman
British elevator operator
A liftman is a person who operates an elevator, primarily British usage.
The term belongs to an era when elevators required manual operation—opening gates, working controls, announcing floors.
The liftman took us to the penthouse.
Now largely historical, as most elevators are automatic.
