electroreceptor

Biological field detector

An electroreceptor is a sensory organ that detects electric fields.

Found in sharks, rays, electric eels, and some other aquatic animals, electroreceptors allow creatures to sense the weak electrical signals generated by prey, predators, or mates.

Sharks use electroreceptors in their snouts to locate fish hidden in sand.
