drybrush

Bristle-dragging paint method

Drybrush is a painting technique using a brush with most of its paint wiped off, creating textured, scratchy strokes that let the surface show through.

The effect suggests weathering, highlights, or rough textures.

As a verb, to drybrush is to apply paint this way: I drybrushed the miniature's armor to bring out the edges.

Common in miniature painting, watercolor, and model weathering.
