droids

Sci-fi synthetic helpers

Droids are robots, especially humanoid ones.

The term comes from android and was popularized by the Star Wars films, where droids serve as servants, translators, and companions.

Outside that franchise, droid often carries a playful or science-fiction flavor: These aren't the droids you're looking for.

It can describe anyone acting mechanically or without independent thought.
