drawshave

Two-handled scraping tool

A drawshave is a woodworking tool with a blade between two handles, pulled toward the user to shave thin layers from a surface.

It shapes chair legs, rounds edges, and removes bark from logs.

The blade may be flat or curved depending on the work: He used a drawshave to taper the spindles.

Also called a drawknife.
