drag hunting
Artificial trail pursuit
Drag hunting is a form of mounted hunting where riders and hounds follow an artificial scent trail laid in advance, rather than pursuing live quarry.
The "drag" is typically a scent-soaked cloth dragged across the landscape to create a predetermined route.
It developed as an alternative to fox hunting, offering similar equestrian challenges without killing animals: The hunt club switched to drag hunting after the ban.
