doorpost
Entry frame side
A doorpost is the vertical frame on either side of a doorway—the upright structure supporting the door.
The word appears most often in biblical contexts, where doorposts held ritual significance: Israelites marked their doorposts with lamb's blood during Passover, and Jewish mezuzahs are affixed to doorposts today.
