dolerite

Coarse-grained igneous rock

Dolerite is a dark, coarse-grained igneous rock, similar in composition to basite but with larger crystals.

It forms when magma cools slowly underground, typically in sheets or dikes.

The term is more common in British geological usage; Americans often call the same rock diabase.

Stonehenge's inner circle is made of dolerite transported from Wales.
