diskettes

Obsolete storage media

Diskettes are floppy disks—thin, flexible magnetic storage media housed in protective plastic casings.

The term was standard in computing from the 1970s through the 1990s, when diskettes were the primary means of transferring files between computers: Save your work to a diskette before shutting down.

Now largely obsolete, replaced by USB drives and cloud storage.
