floppy diskettes
Vintage data squares
Floppy diskettes are magnetic storage media that were standard for personal computers from the 1970s through the 1990s.
The disks were thin and flexible—hence "floppy"—housed in protective casings that grew smaller and more rigid over time: 8-inch, then 5.25-inch, then the 3.5-inch "floppies" that weren't actually floppy at all.
I found a box of old floppy diskettes in the attic.
Now obsolete, replaced by USB drives and cloud storage.
