disinhibitions

Loss of inhibitions

Disinhibitions are instances of losing normal restraints on behavior.

The word appears most often in clinical or psychological contexts, describing how alcohol, brain injury, or certain conditions cause people to act on impulses they would ordinarily suppress: The patient displayed disinhibitions following the frontal lobe damage.

Each disinhibition is a specific episode or manifestation of such loss of control.
