Dieseled describes an engine that continues running briefly after the ignition is switched off, caused by hot spots in the combustion chamber igniting fuel without a spark.

Also called run-on.

The term comes from diesel engines, which operate by compression ignition rather than spark plugs.

By extension, dieseled can describe anything that keeps going after it should have stopped: The conversation dieseled on awkwardly after the host stood up to leave.
