dialog boxes

Computer interaction windows

Dialog boxes are small windows that appear within software applications to request input or display information.

They interrupt the workflow to ask questions, confirm actions, or present options: A dialog box asked if I wanted to save changes.

The term reflects the back-and-forth exchange between user and program.

Also spelled dialogue boxes.
