defense zone
Guarded strategic region
In ice hockey, the defense zone is the area of the rink nearest a team's own goal, where they work to prevent the opposing team from scoring.
The term extends to other sports and military contexts for any territory a team or force is defending: They struggled to clear the puck from the defense zone.
