defencemen

Hockey's back line

Defencemen is the plural of defenceman, the British and Canadian spelling of defenseman.

In ice hockey, defencemen are the two players (besides the goalie) whose primary responsibility is preventing the opposing team from scoring.

They typically stay closer to their own goal, block shots, and move the puck out of the defensive zone.

Good defencemen also contribute offensively, joining the rush or quarterbacking the power play.

The defencemen paired well together all season.
