line change
Fresh legs in
A line change is the substitution of players during a hockey game, when an entire forward line or defensive pairing leaves the ice and fresh players take their place.
Teams make line changes on the fly during play or during stoppages: The coach called for a line change after the icing.
A bad line change leaves too many or too few players on the ice, often resulting in a penalty.
