forechecking

Attacking the puck-carrier

Forechecking is a hockey strategy where players aggressively pursue the puck in the opposing team's defensive zone, pressuring them before they can organize an attack.

The aim is to disrupt breakouts and force turnovers: Their relentless forechecking kept the defense pinned behind their own net.

A player who does this is a forechecker.
