decelerator

Slows things down

A decelerator is a device or mechanism that slows something down—the opposite of an accelerator.

The term appears in engineering contexts for braking systems, speed-reduction mechanisms, or anything designed to reduce velocity: The parachute acts as a decelerator during reentry.

In particle physics, decelerators slow subatomic particles for study.
