chain locks
Looped metal security
Chain locks are door security devices consisting of a short chain attached to a metal plate on the door frame and a sliding bolt on the door itself.
When engaged, the chain allows the door to open only a few inches—enough to see or speak with someone outside without fully admitting them: She answered the door with the chain lock on.
Common in apartments and hotels, they provide a psychological barrier more than serious security.
