wallflower
Timid dance attendee
A wallflower is a person who remains on the sidelines at a social gathering, especially someone too shy to dance or mingle: She spent prom as a wallflower, watching from the bleachers.
The term comes from the flowering plant that grows on walls and rocky places.
By extension, wallflower describes anything overlooked or undervalued: The stock was a wallflower until last quarter.
